The result of the 2018 Senatorial Election has been released; “SDF won just 7 seats”
On the 5th of April, 2018, the Cameroon constitutional council released the complete result of the 25th March, 2018 senatorial election.
As usual, the CPDM party recorded a landslide victory (won decisively).
The CPDM party won 63 seats while the SDF party won just 7 seats out of the 70 available elective seats.
The other 7 political parties (like UPC, UNDP and the rest…) which took part in the 25th March 2018 senatorial election, didn’t succeed to get a seat in the senate house.
9 regions (including the South West region) out of the 10 regions of Cameroon voted in favour of the CPDM party while the SDF party won only in the North West region.
It should be noted that the SDF party almost lose in the North West region; which is the SDF party’s stronghold. The senatorial election result for the North region was almost 50:50.
As a reminder, the Cameroon senate house has 100 seats. 70 seats out of 100 seats are elective seats while the remaining 30 seats are presidential seats.
The 70 senators that will occupy the 70 elective seats in the senate house are voted by councilors from the 10 regions of Cameroon..with each region voting 7 Senators.
The senators that will occupy the 30 presidential seats in the senate house will be appointed by the President of Cameroon as stipulated by the constitution of Cameroon. 3 senators from the 10 regions of Cameroon will be appointed by president Biya.
The result of the 25th March senatorial election has caused many Anglophone Cameroonians to ask this $64,000 question…
