On Sunday 27th of October, 2019, shock waves spread across the Buea Municipality after heart breaking reports emerged that the no-nonsense Mayor of Buea (Ekema Patrick Esunge) had passed away in a hospital in Douala.

It is true that the brave warrior of Buea; Ekema Patrick Esunge (AKA ‘Nyamoto Kpwatolo’) is dead, however the true cause of his death is still unknown.

Many news platforms have published contradictory reports regarding his sudden death.

Popular Cameroon Bilingual news blog; journalducameroon.com reported that some family sources have revealed that Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge died of cardiac arrest.

Family sources say he was suffered a malaise at his residence in Buea late on Saturday night before he was rushed to a medical facility in Douala where he was receiving treatment. He later gave up the ghost on Sunday morning…Journal Du Cameroon wrote.

UK based hearsay blogger,Mimi Mefo reported that early Sunday October 27, 2019, Mayor Ekema had a quick shock and fell at a Douala hotel where he was lodging.

Mimi Mefo added that Mayor Ekema Patrick died shortly after in a clinic where he was rushed to for medical care. His body has been deposited at a Douala hospital mortuary.

CRTV reported that Mayor Patrick Ekema Esunge died on Sunday in a hospital in Douala after a malaise, thought to be a cardiac arrest.

CRTV also revealed that the mortal remains of Mayor Ekema Patrick have been kept at the Douala military hospital mortuary while investigations have been opened on the circumstances surrounding his sudden demise.

Other Cameroon news platforms have reported that the Charismatic Mayor of Buea, was poisoned.

The Buea Council Management still hasn’t released a statement regarding the death of Mayor Ekema Patrick.

However many friends and sympathizers of the mayor are of the opinion that the chief anti-ghost town crusader in Buea; Mayor Ekema Patrick didn’t die a natural death. In other words, Mayor Ekema Patrick died as a result of a spiritual attack launched by his enemies (the diabolic Ambazonians who are best known for using  charms).

Nevertheless the suspicion of his sympathizers might be partially true owing to the fact that Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge had tons of Enemies who saw him as a stumbling block to their progress and desperately wanted him out of the way.

Somebody may likely want to ask, HOW DID MAYOR EKEMA PATRICK BECOME A MAYOR AND A PUBLIC ENEMY????

Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge became Mayor in 2013 after his predecessor Mbella Moki Charles was elected Senator.

Senator Mbella Moki Charles was forced to give up the top job owing to the fact that senators were not permitted to hold two jobs.

As the 1st deputy Mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge was exhumed to complete Mbella Moki Charles 11 yrs mandate as elected Lord Mayor for Buea.

However barely few months after mayor Ekema Patrick took the baton of Leadership, he became enemy with his former boss and predecessor; Senator Mbella Moki Charles.

The former close friends, became enemies after Senator Mbella Moki realized that Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge was bent on erasing his legacy via his coercive leadership style.

As a 1st deputy mayor who was elevated to the rank of Mayor to complete the 11 years mandate, of his predecessor; Mbella Moki Charles, many inhabitants of Buea thought Ekema Patrick will follow the footstep (good example) of Mbella Moki.

However it became very apparent that Ekema Patrick had his own vision for Buea which was antagonistic to the vision of his predecessor. A vision to transform Buea from the town of legendary hospitality to The City of Excellence” by using a coercive (violent) leadership style.

After Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge became the mayor of Buea Municipality, he fired most of the workers who had served under his predecessor….indirectly passing a message to Mbella Moki that he is not continuing from were he stopped but starting afresh; a move which greatly annoyed Senator Mbella Moki Charles and caused him to take drastic actions in an attempt to oust Mayor Ekema Patrick from the top job.

In an attempt to sabotage and illigitimize Ekema Patrick, Senator Charles Mbella Moki, in 2017, called on the GCE Board to investigate thoroughly into allegations of Mayor Ekema’s doubtful results at the GCE; a move which greatly angered Ekema Patrick Esunge.

In 2018, Ekema Patrick Esunge labelled former mayor of Buea; Mbella Moki Charles as an idiot and stated he can never vote for him in the 2018 senatorial election.

The aforementioned facts doesn’t insinuate that Senator Mbella Moki has a hand in the death of Ekema Patrick. However it is often said that an in house enemy is far dangerous than an outsider.

Mayor Ekema Patrick became in infamous in 2016 after he ordered and personally supervised the demolition dilapidated houses along the streets of Buea, in an attempt to keep the city clean in preparation for the Female African Cup of Nation (AFCON) hosted by Cameroon. The action taken by Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge caused many to be homeless.

On the 22nd of September, 2017, (during the massive protest staged  by the separatist) a group of angry youths stormed the home of Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge. They destroyed five of his vehicles, manhandled guards on duty and destroyed glasses of the house.

Rumor has it that Mayor Ekema Patrick killed one civilian in self defense. However Ekema refuted the allegation.

The alleged murder of the civilian by Ekema Patrick caused Ekema Patrick to become the number one enemy of the separatist in Buea.

On the other hand, Mayor Ekema Patrick also vowed to frustrate the Ambazonian dream hence the battle line was drawn between Mayor Ekema Patrick and the diabolic Ambazonians who are best known for using charms.

After the terrific September 22nd incident, Mayor Ekema Patrick has fought against the Ambazonians in Buea tirelessly which caused his tribesmen to award him to the title Nyamoto Kpwatolo meaning the brave warrior.

These are some of the efforts made by Ekema Patrick to frustrate the activities of the Ambazonians in the Buea Municipality…

1- He fought hard for a return to normalcy in the Buea.

2- He carried out operations intended to end Ghost Town on Mondays in his municipality.

3- Sealed shops of business persons who respected Ghost Towns despite security measures he had taken.

4- He gave motivation to Taxi and Commercial Motorcycle riders to overcome fear and transport people on Mondays.

5- Organised peace walks in Buea in a bid to consolidate National Unity.
6 – Mayor Ekema Patrick stopped any unauthorized protest in Buea.

7- Provided Humanitarian Assistance to internally displaced persons.

8- Organised peace football tournaments to promote cohesion in the municipality.

9- He stood firmly for decentralization, calling on the transfer of resources to local communities.

10 – He participated at the Major National Dialogue and actively contributed in the crafting of recommendations at the Decentralisation commission.

11 – Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge also threatenned to stop Cardinal Tumi’s from holding his All Anglophone Conference in Buea.

12 – He organized a massive street protest to call for the release of 9 fako chiefs abducted by the Ambazonia fighters. The 9 Fako chiefs were released less than 24 hours after the street protest.

The aforementioned activities caused the Ambazonia Interim government to put up a 2 million frs bounty to be offered to anybody who will kidnap the mayor of Buea or provide information that might lead to his abduction.

However no Ambazonian was able to claim the 2 million frs CFA due to tight security at the residence of the Mayor. The mayor also doesn’t move around the city without his trigger happy security guards.

Lack of physical means to kill/harm Mayor Ekema, must have prompted the Ambazonians to resort to using diabolic means (Witch Craft).

Mimi Mefo reported that Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge was last seen in public on Friday, October 24 2019, when he went to the Buea regional hospital to donate ambulances to the hospital.

Mimi Mefo also revealed that “The mayor was in good health and did not show signs of sickness at the event,”… which insinuates that the death of Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge wasn’t natural.

It should be noted that, not only the Ambazonians wanted Mayor Ekema Patrick dead. Some high ranking CPDM militants of the South West region also wanted to assassinate the mayor ( or wanted him death by all means).

In September, 2018, Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge was almost killed in Sawa Hotel in Douala by Cameroon security forces who thought he was a separatist who had come to Douala to launch an attack.

In one of the videos of the incident which surfaced online, Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge could be seen lying flat on his stomach, while officers interrogate and search as Mayor Ekema struggled to introduce himself. The Mayor was raised to his feet, as one of the officers grabbed him firmly on his back while pushing him forward to where others were held. The officer will later on leave the Mayor’s shirt, and rather grab the Mayor firmly by the neck, using his elbow and forehand, while commanding and pushing the Mayor to move to an arena where others had been detained. In another separate clip following that one, elements of the Rapid Intervention Battalion, best known as BIR, in full amour were seen entering and taking up positions in the hotel premises. At the end of that particular clip, the Mayor could be seen seated on the floor alongside others while officers stood over them, with weapons drawn. In another separate video, officers could be seen, interrogating and searching civilians, while gunshots echoed in the background.

After the video surfaced online many people thought Mayor Ekema Patrick was attacked in Sawa Hotel Douala by Ambazonia fighters and the Cameroun security forces seen in the video, were trying to protect him…but that wasn’t the case.

During an interview, Ekema Patrick Esunge accused his colleagues of the Cameroon’s People Democratic Movement (CPDM) of masterminding an attack on him at Sawa Hotel in Douala, aimed at assassinating him.

Mayor Ekema Patrick said…

“I want the population to stay calm. It was an attempt to assassinate the Mayor, and God was in control. I am alive and this ceremony is taking place. I won’t say that it was perpetrated by secessionists. It was totally organised by the CPDM elite of the region who attended the launching at Mountain Hotel”. Ekema declared.

He went further by narrating that his CPDM comrades “raised a false alarm to the military authorities in Douala that there were four armed secessionists at the hotel.

Mayor Ekema said…

We went to Douala to procure party uniforms for our militants and because we could not get the uniforms at that time, we had to look for a place to sit and have a meal. So we sat at the open canteen at Sawa Hotel, near the swimming pool and some of them were at Pullman Hotel…the others were at Sawa hotel. They raised an alarm to the security forces that we were secessionists and so they came outrightly to eliminate us. It is only God who saved us. It has nothing to do with the secessionist movement. It is an elite plot to eliminate me and my comrades”. Ekema concluded.

It should be noted that even though Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge had tons of enemies, he was “allegedly” a pagan.

During a LIVE TV programme on CRTV, a close friend of Ekema Patrick revealed that Mayor Ekema Patrick has vowed not to go to Church because he strongly believe that most pastors are hypocrites.

Even though Mayor Ekema appeared physically strong & well guarded, spiritually he was very weak and therefore vulnerable to spiritual attacks. His enemies who couldn’t attack him physically must have resorted to using witchcraft to terminate his life.

Like i mentioned earlier, CRTV has reported that investigations have been opened on the circumstances surrounding his sudden demise.

In the meantime, the office of the Major in Buea was immediately sealed in line with National regulations when an official dies.

Patrick Ekema Esunge dies barely a month after taking part in Major National Dialogue where he was member of the Decentralization commission.

He was also part of different delegations from the South West region that were received by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute during predialogue consultations for the Major National Dialogue.

The late Mayor will be remembered for hosting the 50th Anniversary of Reunification in Buea, during which ceremony he was received in audience by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.

He has won several awards for his resistance to ghost towns in Buea and quest for a return to normalcy.

The Warrior of Fako as he was called by his tribes men was active member of the Cameroon People Democratic Movement, CPDM party. He is also holder of a Master’s degree in History.

Mayor Ekema Patrick died at the age of 46.

Our ears are still on the ground. We shall provide you with more information as the story unfolds.
