Cameroon minister of Communication and government spokes man; Issa Tchiroma Bakary has refuted a widespread report (which is currently being propagated by most top media outlets) which states that four Cameroon military officers have been arrested in the Far North Region of Cameroon in connection with the heinous crimes displayed in the video which went viral on social media.

In a recent press briefing in the nation’s capital Yaounde on Friday, July 20, 2018, the infallible Cameroon minister of Communication said (without mincing words), that NO military officer supposedly involved in the heinous crimes displayed in the video which went viral on social media, was arrested. Any reference to this is just pure fantasy on the part of their authors, he added.

However Issa Tchiroma Reiterates that the Head of State, His Excellency Paul BIYA, the Government and the entire Cameroonian people, were deeply shocked and outraged by the atrocity of the images contained in a video recently circulated on social media, and which shows scenes of extrajudicial executions committed on women and young children by some men dressed in military attires.

These are gruesome, inhumane and unacceptable acts and which cannot be “justified” on any grounds says Issa Tchiroma.

The no-nonsense communication minister also debunked the report published by Amnesty International on the 12th of July, 2018 which stated that the heinous crimes seen in the viral video, was committed by Cameroon’s army officers combating Boko Haram in the Far North region of Cameroon.

This is what Issa Tchiroma said in response to the report published by Amnesty International…

All in all, the arguments used to incriminate our Army are ungrounded and full of hasty accusations.

We can ask ourselves what could be the motivations behind the relentless indictment of our Army by some NGO, whereas its professionalism is widely acknowledged.

The Cameroonian Army is a disciplined, patriotic, and republican army. Its mission is to defend our territorial integrity. It does so in all professionalism and respect for human rights. The Cameroonian Army is at war against terrorists and not against women and children.

Nevertheless Issa Tchiroma also mentioned that Cameroon government is not insinuating that the Cameroon defense forces are infallible (OR incapable of committing the heinous acts seen in the viral video).

He said ….

We cannot however exclude that like everywhere else in the world, there may be blunders in a fighting context.

The Head of State, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has to this effect prescribed the zero tolerance principle.

Owing to the gravity and intolerability of the facts contained therein, the Head of State has ordered the opening of a thorough investigation to shed light on this case. In case of proven facts, the authors will be arrested, tried and severely sanctioned said Issa Tchiroma.

Pursuant to these Special Instructions of the Head of State, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic in charge of Defense has set up a commission of inquiry.

Anyone with information that may contribute to the manifestation of the truth and to identify the perpetrators is requested to contact the said Commission using the following phone numbers 222 23 43 84 ou 222 22 64 97.

Coming back to the fake report about the arrest of four suspects, Tchiroma said that it is too early to determine the source of the video and only the result of the findings will determine the implicated military and country.

It is worth noting that when the video went viral weeks ago, the Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary was quick to hold a press conference denying that the video is not from Cameroon but from Mali.

The first outing of the Minister regarding the video was to clean the image of the Cameroonian army whom he described as “professionals and well trained”.
