Nigerian Afropop Superstar, Naira Marley has apologized to fans in Cameroon for not being able to perform at his Valentines day concert in Limbe.

In a video footage (published by one of the show promoters), Naira Marley said he couldn’t perform because the show was cancelled by authorities for “obvious reasons” but however assured his fans that the show promoters will set a date for a bigger and better show.

Even though Naira Marley didn’t disclose a reason why the show was cancelled by authorities, Mic Monsta (one of the artists booked to perform at Naira Marley’s show), took to his Facebook page to reveal that the show was cancelled because Naira Marley is a foreign artist and questioned why Fally Ipupa’s show (held in Douala 3 days ago) wasn’t also cancelled by authorities.

Many stakeholders of the Cameroon music industry are of the opinion that Naira Marley’s show was cancelled because he is a Nigerian artist adding that the decision taken by the local authorities may have been influenced by recent calls for the banning of Nigerian music in Cameroon.

It should be recalled that in December, 2020, a Cameroonian comedian; Pancho Cy International was spotted in a viral video inciting xenophobic attacks against Nigerian artists.

Cy International alleged that Nigerians are taking foods off the table of local artistes in the country as he threatened to mobilize people who will fight back at show promoters and DJs who play Nigerian music.

He also accused Nigerians of being greedy as he alleged that he has had many ugly encounters with them both home and abroad. The entertainer wrote on Instagram as he shared the video;

All you Cameroonian Deejays home and Abroad, owners of Snack Bars listen and listen well, you won’t like what we’re a planning for you this year 2021…said CY International.

Stanley Enow, Tzy Panchak and a handful of Cameroonian artist have joined their voices to that of CY, calling on DJs to reduce the rate at which they play Nigerian music in the clubs. In one night club, Stanley Enow was spotted saying DJs STOP PLAYING NIGERIAN MUSIC FOR HOURS and he was heavily applauded for making that statement.

However judging from the manner in which Cameroonians have rushed the tickets of Naira Marley concert, gives us the impression that most Cameroonians gave a deaf ear to the call made by the comedian and other Cameroonian artists in Cameroon.

After the show was cancelled, Bonteh Engelbert (in charge Communications & Marketing of Naira Marley’s show) revealed in a communique that almost 80% of the tickets of Naira Marley’s show, WAS ALREADY SOLD OUT before the event date.

It should be recalled that this is the second time the show has been cancelled by authorities i.e. the event was initially scheduled for Buea and later pushed to Limbe because local authorities refused this event can’t hold.

However the chief promoter of the show; Prince Mykel Enobi has call on the Malians to guard their tickets jealously as they will reschedule & announce a new date & location soon.

Our ears are still on the ground. We shall bring you more information as the story unfolds.
