Saturday, October 24, 2020 was labelled as Black Saturday by inhabitants of Kumba, Meme division of the restive South West region of Cameroon following the gruesome murder of 6 students by armed men suspected to be separatist fighters.

We learnt that at about 9:30 am a group of suspected Amba boys invaded Mother Francisca College Fiango Kumba, shooting students studying in classrooms indiscriminately.

A reliable source in Kumba told Mimi Mefo Info that six students have been confirmed dead. Four seriously wounded have been evacuated by Doctors Without Borders, while those with minor injuries are receiving treatment in Kumba.

An inhabitant of Kumba living close to the crime scene says “we saw around 15 students carried to the hospital, all with blood stains on them. I am sure about 7 have died already.”

Another inhabitant living around the scene of action “…amba boys arrived at the school at about 9:30 am and started shooting into the classes. They say the students are traitors for attending classes when they have called for an effective school boycott in the North West and South West regions of the country. When we got the gunshots, we ran into the house for safety. It was so terrifying… we only saw the blood bath later,” she narrated, while insisting to keep her identity a secret.

According to Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong, Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Meme Division, “Four students have been killed in the private college by separatist fighters with many others wounded and some in critical conditions… “

Ntou’ou Ndong says “…I will not only condemn the cowardly action but I want to tell the criminals that they can run as far as their legs can take them but the military will hunt and kill them all.”

The turnout pupils and students during the opening of the 2020/2021 academic year was very high as compared to the past 3yrs (since the onset of the Anglophone crisis) following the pro-school resumption statements made by Sisisku Ayuk Tabe, Eric Tataw and Mark Bareta.

A few days before the start of the 2020/2021 Academic year, the influential Ambazonians activists had published statements on twitter advocating for effective school resumption in Southern Cameroon come 5th October, after kids have been away from school since the onset of the Anglophone crisis.

On the 28th of September,2020, Eric Tataw tweeted…

“On the issue of school resumption, I can categorically say that Ambazonia has lost. It has been a strategy that has backfied on us. Let us restrategise. Let the children go to school.

The PIGs will not drag our children into the dark age with reduntant policies. Let schools reopen peacefully.”

Less than 24 hours after Eric Tataw called for school resumption, Mark Bareta also took to Twitter to add his voice to Eric Tataw…calling for effective school resumption.

On the 29th of September,2020, Mark Bareta tweeted…

Like I have stated before schools boycott is no longer a weapon of our struggle for independence. Thus, where possible Ambazonia Forces should allow education and even encourage schools going. This must be faced with the reality and subject to the security situation in each area.

On the 29th of September, 2020, Sisiku (the chief anti-school pronent) also called for effective school resumption via a tweet.

He wrote…

“Knowledge is Power” As a people we cannot sacrifice the future of our children. While the Cameroun Military commits #Genocide in #SouthernCameroons. We must continue to resist them & protect our people especially our children^ as they return to school come October 5th, 2020.”

However barely 20 days after the start of the 2020/2021, 6 students have been massacred by armed men suspected to be Ambazonia fighters (with death toll like to rise).

Our ears are still on the ground. We shall bring you more info as the story unfolds.
