A photo posted by New York based Cameroonian blogger, actress and producer, Maybelle Boma, which shows pastor Boniface Tamunga ( father of an 11-year old boy killed in the Kumba School shooting), planting a last kiss on the face of his dead son; Victory, has rekindled pain in the hearts of Cameroonians.

Armstrong Apopo (a close relative to the bereaved family), revealed (via a Facebook post) that late Victory’s mother (of blessed memory) gave birth to Victory after ten years of trying to conceive.

He said…

“It took her (my cousin) over 10 years of struggle to conceive a child!

Labeled barren and all sorts of derogatory attributes but she kept trying until she received her blessing of a bouncing baby boy – VICTORY,” Apopo wrote.

He added…

“Now 10 years later “YOU” come and take the life of her boy, her blessing, her reason to believe again, the child that earned her the title of a mother, who does that?
Who kills innocent school children? Who sits and watch people kill children???

“The boy was only 10 but he was a 20 years memory. He was his father’s pride to his family and a child with a bright future – and THEY SHOT HIM, THEY SHOT ALL THOSE INNOCENT KIDS for what???”

As a reminder, armed attackers stormed Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Fiango, Kumba, Cameroon on Saturday, October 24, and opened fire indiscriminately, killing at least six children and wounding about 13 more. Some children were injured jumping from second-storey windows.

11-year-old Victory was among the 6 children killed when the gunmen attacked Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Fiango, Kumba, Cameroon.

There are no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack described by the UN as “the worst atrocity” since the resumption of the 2020/2021 school year earlier this month (October 5th).

However accusing fingers are pointing towards the separatist fighters owing to that fact the separatist leaders (in the past 4 years) have advocated for schools to be closed in Southern Cameroon as part of their protest against president Paul Biya’s French-speaking government and its perceived marginalization of the English-speaking minority.

According to the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong, the heinous crime was committed by separatist fighters.

Speaking to the press shortly after visiting the crime scene, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong said…

“Some fighters went to Fiango and attacked innocent students. Four were killed, and others seriously wounded. Let me seize this opportunity not only to condemn what has happened, but to tell them that we are going to do our best to shut them down. Let them run, we are behind them”. Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong.

The SDO for Meme also frowned at inhabitants of Fiango for being complacent, while the fighters killed the innocent students.”

He said…

“I cannot understand that during the day, separatist fighters are attacking innocent children. The surrounding population witnesses without doing anything. That is why I have given instructions for them to all be arrested”. Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong”

In order to preempt further attacks in schools, Mr. Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong called on all authorities of schools in Kumba, to inform the forces of Law and Order of their presence in the city.

He said…

“All the schools operating in Kumba should declare their activities, because forces of Law and Order have to be aware, if not, it will be difficult for them to secure all these schools. This is the instruction I have given, but it looks like some schools continue to hide. Such schools will be shut down”. Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong.”
